Lawrence, KS. – Last week the CPIFL named the 2013 MVP and 2013 Defensive Player of the Year as Players of the Week for Week 1.  In Week 2, the Special Teams Player of the Year from 2013 returned to form and is being recognized as one of three Players of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week:  Zach Rasmussen, Oklahoma Defenders

Rasmussen led the Defenders to a 56-49 victory over the Dodge City Law by throwing for 146 yards and five touchdowns. Rasmussen did not throw any interceptions in 29 pass attempts which proved to be crucial as Dodge City was forced into three turnovers by the Defender defense.  Rasmussen added a rushing touchdown in the game as well.  Oklahoma brings their 2-0 record back home on Sunday when the Wichita Wild visit Tulsa.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Ira Autrey, Salina Bombers

The Bombers defense became stingier in Week 2 allowing only 20 points to the Bloomington Edge.  The Bombers allowed 70 to the Bandits in a Week 1 victory.  With the game tied at seven late in the second quarter, Autrey made his presence felt as he forced and recovered a Bloomington fumble.  Salina turned the turnover into a touchdown which gave them the momentum in a tight game.  An Autrey interception in the endzone in the third quarter again led to a Bombers touchdown.  Autrey also recorded five tackles in the game.  Salina takes a 2-0 record into a bye in Week 3.

Special Teams Player of the Week:  Courtney Grixby, Omaha Beef

Grixby, the CPIFL’s Special Teams Player of the Year in 2013, ignited the Beef’s second-half surge in their 55-27 victory over the Kansas Koyotes.  Omaha was facing a 27-20 deficit in the third quarter when Grixby changed the game with a 52-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.  Omaha went on to score the next 28 points of the game to put away the Koyotes.  Grixby averaged 25.2 yards per return on his five kick returns in the game.  Omaha takes a 1-1 record into a bye.

Week 3 of the CPIFL season begins on Friday night with Lincoln hosting Bloomington.  On Sunday, Wichita visits Oklahoma.  Stay connected with the CPIFL all season by following us on Twitter @CPIFL and becoming a fan on Facebook at facebook.com/cpifl.
