Internships

The Oklahoma Defenders are one of the most exciting indoor professional football teams in the country. The Defenders will begin play in the new Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) in 2013. The Defenders participated in its first ever playoff game after compiling a 9-4 record in its 2012 inaugural season. six players were awarded all-league team honors and 4 additional players received honorable mention. The move to the CPIFL is a positive one for the Defenders, and the team plans to continue its success in this stronger league.

Interns with the Oklahoma Defenders are involved in sports, event management, program development, marketing and communications, and various other aspects of the business. Applicants must have a strong writing and communication skills, be highly organized, have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and work as part of a team and independently. Juniors or seniors with business-related, media-related, sport management or sport science/exercise physiology areas of study are especially encouraged to apply.

General Information:

Hours: Minimum 25 hrs per week (will work within academic requirements)

Flexible schedule: Hours of operations depend on the schedule of game nights and other Defenders programs.

Period: Fall, Spring or Summer terms

Salary: NA (unpaid)

Sports Marketing & Communications Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of Oklahoma Defenders operations and promotions including, but not limited to:

• Produce and maintain press releases, website content, marketing materials, graphics, advertisements, photographs, promotional campaigns, bios, highlights

• Organize entertainment, promotional contests, PA announcements, amusements, announcements, national anthem singers

• Develop and maintain contact lists for media and sponsors

• Organize and categorize all marketing materials

• Inform organizations and businesses of group and season ticket sales programs.

• Design Oklahoma Defenders game-day program inserts

• Assist with day-to-day sponsorship fulfillment activities (retrieve and deliver tickets, artwork, etc.)

• Assist Oklahoma Defenders staff conducting evening events

• Other duties, as assigned

Sports Management Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of Oklahoma Defenders operations and promotions including, but not limited to:

• Management of physical operations

o Administrate facility and equipment maintenance, repair, etc.

o Develop, implement, and review risk management policy and procedure

o Train, coordinate and evaluate program and event staff

*Ticketing

*Security

*Medical

*Coaching

o Liaise with patrons, athletes, and employees

• Administration of the Oklahoma Defenders game-day operation

o Facility preparation

o Event management

*Event briefing/debriefing

o Website updates

• Coordination of operations with governing body, the Champions Professional Indoor Football League

• Other duties, as assigned

Business Management Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of Oklahoma Defenders operations and promotions, including, but not limited to:

• Develop and maintain all contact lists for Oklahoma Defenders groups, including season ticket holders, sports organizations, patrons, etc.

• Identify, organize, and catalog videotapes, mailing lists, files, etc.

• Assist with the fulfillment of Oklahoma Defenders game-day and program administration;

o Produce & place all game day inserts

o Catalog, stock, and distribute Defenders-related materials

o Maintain event review and results

o Update website

• Perform strategic analysis of attendance trends, profitability, program success, etc.

• Assist with day-to-day phone and clerical responsibilities

• Other duties, as assigned
